Scrub Island Resort, Spa & Marina in the British Virgin Islands has hired Scarlett Steer as Real Estate & Business Development Manager, Alex Karageorgiadis as Director of Operations, andRasheed Oladele Olalekan as Director of Engineering. Steer will be responsible for real estate sales and community relations at the exclusive, private island paradise, and serve as the direct liaison to charter companies and other local businesses for attracting visitors to Marina Cay, Scrub Island’s Marina, Ixora Spa, and other resort outlets. Karageorgiadis will handle day-to-day resort management and ensure proper guest and staff engagement at both Scrub Island Resort, Spa & Marina and the neighboring Marina Cay Bar & Grill. In his role, Olalekan will oversee all engineering operations at the luxury, private-island resort, including facilities management, preventive maintenance, capital planning, and environmental sustainability initiatives.
“All three individuals bring a wealth of experience and hands-on knowledge to the resort, making them invaluable additions to our operations team,” said resort General Manager Sandra Grisham-Clothier.
Steer previously served as Guest Services Manager, and later Real Estate Sales Manager, at Oil Nut Bay on Virgin Gorda where she began her career in BVI luxury residential, resort, and commercial real estate. Steer earned her degrees in Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa, where she also worked as a journalist, editor, and photographer for travel publications.
Karageorgiadis joins the resort having served as General Manager of Avra Hotel, a luxury boutique property in Athens, Greece. He also worked as Director of Operations and Director of Food & Beverage at such notable properties as Pink Sands Resort (Harbour Island, Bahamas), The Crane Resort (St. Philip, Barbados), the Alexandra Resort (Providenciales, Turks & Caicos), and Canyon Ranch Hotel & Spa (Miami Beach, Florida). Karageorgiadis earned his degree in Business Administration from Deree College in Athens and is also Sommelier Certified.
Olalekan comes to Scrub Island following his role as Director of Engineering at Banana Island Resort Doha by Anantara, a 33-acre luxury island resort in Qatar, where he managed critical infrastructure, including generators, desalination systems, sewage treatment facilities, and an extensive fleet of marine vessels. His project leadership included the development of an island adventure park, paddle courts, and multiple resort pools. Prior to that, he served as Chief Engineer at both Anantara Maia Seychelles Villas and MAIA Luxury Resort & Spa and held senior engineering roles with Southern Sun Hotels in the UAE, Nigeria, and the Seychelles.
