Deputy Premier Whips Out Receipts At Press Conference

In an unprecedented move today, Honourable Lorna Smith OBE, Deputy Premier and Minister for Financial Services, Trade and Labour when asked for costs on the Mission to Guyana trip, went into her bag and pulled out her tickets as proof of cost and level of travel. 

“I even sat by a dog, at the very back of the plane.” she gleefully exclaimed

The move humored and surprised those sitting in the room which included Media and other members of the mission trip. 

Honourable Smith was responding to a question posed by Guavaberry Media on the cost of the trip to Guyana and whether the Government coffers had covered everyone that travelled. She made it clear that her entire team of five (5) were covered, however, they had all travelled Coach class. She further stated that all other persons on the trip paid their own way to be there. 

Both Honourable Smith and Elise Donovan, Director of BVI Finance confirmed that an invitation was sent to the private sector as well as members of BVICCHA, to garner interest from those wishing to be a part of the mission to Guyana. 

The press conference was held today 15 August by the Deputy Premier and Minister for Financial Services, Trade and Labour Honourable Lorna Smith OBE. Junior Minister for Agriculture Honourable Karl Dawson was also in attendance and part of the panel. They presented a report on their travels to Guyana.
