A brief power outage Saturday night, March 29th, could not dim the burning light within new convert and new Christian Artiste, “KC ASAP”. The artiste whose given name is Khiry Creque is a 31-year-old from East End, Tortola known for dancing more than singing. His listening party changed that, a his debut project featured 12 songs, many of which features him singing while he raps on others.
He opened the listening party with crowd favourite ‘Journey’ which recapped portions of his journey from being unsaved and “in the world” and becoming a Christian. KC ASAP was baptised on 4th August, and attends Spirit and Truth Church.
Speaking candidly to the audience of 50 invited guests, he talked openly about coming home late at nights, heavily drinking, partying and feeling the despair of the repetitive actions, before noting how happy his mother, who was in the audience, must feel about him accepting Christ. The first section was titled Pain and Suffering.
Song after song received thunderous applause, as his set seamlessly weaved R&B, Soul and Afrobeat-inspired sounds to the delight of the group gathered at Mellow Moods Cafe and Market.
His second part of the party focused on love, opening with a song that shared his desired make up of the wife he wants. The catchy rap was backed by piano notes as a hush fell over the crowd, which was rapped in his lyrics. Another crowd favourite echoed the words “no games, no games”, a caution to people in relationships not to play with the emotions of each other.
Three talented backup singers kept the place live as fellow musicians, lawyers, doctors, government officials, artists, pastors and others nodded their heads in approval.
KC ASAP will now set his sight on releasing his debut project and booking performances to share his message about God’s salvation and the beauty of love.
