Honourable Eileen Parsons OBE Endorses Alliance

The question on everyone’s tongue - Did Honourable Eileen Parsons OBE endorse the Alliance?

Our newsroom and Editor in Chief has been inundated with calls and messages since the launch of the Alliance’s radio show on last Wednesday April 23, 2025 with queries as to whether the former Member of the House and political stalwart Parsons had endorsed the movement.

In an interesting and unsuspecting show of support, the Honourable Eileen Parsons was the chosen host of the first episode of the Alliance’s radio show held last week on ZBVI Radio. The show sent viewers and listeners into a frenzy of ‘Melee’, however, two questions have remained:

  • Has Honourable Parsons endorsed the Alliance?
  • What of the relationship between Honourable Eileen Parsons OBE and Honourable Ronnie Skelton?

While neither Honourable Parsons nor Members of the Alliance have come forward to verbally confirm that Parsons has endorsed the newly formed Alliance movement, actions certainly are speaking louder than words.

Honourable Eileen Parsons OBE who is known to be an avid, unwavering supporter of Honourable Ronnie Skelton seems to have drawn the line in the sand, and cast her support towards the Alliance. A telling move.

This show of support toward the Alliance is a resounding exhibition of love of country over self for the political stalwart. Seemingly leaving not only personal relationships on the side, but willing to define a new era in unified togetherness and leadership for the Territory.

Honourable Parsons has been known for her position and strong stance in defining who a Virgin Islander is, or was known to be, based on her upbringing.

Guavaberry Media continues to watch this developing space.

Once again, GB has demonstrated why it remains a leading source for timely and relevant reporting in the British Virgin Islands. The latest article highlights a development of considerable political significance.Honourable Eileene Parsons is, by any measure, a political heavyweight in the BVI. She holds the distinction of being the first woman appointed as Minister of Health, Education, and Welfare, and subsequently became the Territory’s first female Deputy Chief Minister — both under the Virgin Islands Party (VIP). Later, she played a pivotal role in the formation of the National Democratic Party (NDP) and was successfully elected under its banner. To date, she remains one of the few — if not the only — political figures in BVI history to leave a major party and go on to help establish another viable, electable alternative. That trajectory underscores the depth of her political acumen, and it is precisely why her opinions continue to carry significant weight.Hon. Parsons has consistently spoken on the subject of indigenous BVIslanders, but she has done so without resorting to the divisive or exclusionary rhetoric that has surfaced in recent political discourse. Her latest endorsement, therefore, is not only noteworthy — it is seismic. It signals a clear rejection of strategies rooted in identity-based exclusion. She appears to recognize that advocating for the rights and recognition of indigenous Virgin Islanders does not have to come at the expense of acknowledging the essential contributions of expatriate communities. These are not mutually exclusive values — and reconciling them is key to national progress.Parsons' endorsement of the Alliance suggests she views it as the most viable and unifying political force for the Territory’s future. It is also a remarkable act of political maturity and patriotism, particularly given her historical differences with some of the party’s leadership, including Hon. Ronnie Skelton. Her ability to rise above personal history in order to champion what she believes is best for the country sets a powerful example. If more leaders and citizens alike could bring this level of objectivity and foresight to the national conversation, there is little doubt that the BVI would be positioned as a standout among Caribbean nations.
