Governor Out of Territory For Extended Period

The public is advised that Deputy Governor, Mr. David D. Archer, Jr. will act in the Office of Governor until August 2 in the absence of His Excellency the Governor, Mr. Daniel Pruce, who will be out of the Territory.

Mr. Archer’s Oath of Allegiance and Oath for Due Execution of Office was administered by His Lordship, the Honourable Justice Abbas Mithani in the presence of His Excellency the Governor, Mr. Daniel Pruce.

In a message on the Governor’s official Facebook page a short while ago, (today Monday June 30, 2025) the Governor issued the following statement in reference to to his extended period away from the Territory:-

“A message from Governor Pruce:

'I'm now back in the UK to attend the annual conference of Governors, Ambassadors and High Commissioners, which will feature important discussions with Ministers and colleagues on a wide range of current issues. I'll then be having surgery on my left shoulder to fix the defect that led to it dislocating for a second time last year. I'm looking forward to returning to the Virgin Islands at the start of August once I've recovered sufficiently from the operation.”

Deputy Governor Archer, Jr’s appointment is in accordance with section 37 (1) (a) of the Virgin Islands Constitution Order 2007 which states, “During any period when the office of Governor is vacant, or the Governor is absent from the Virgin Islands or is for any other reason unable to perform the functions of his or her office, the Deputy Governor shall during His Majesty’s pleasure, act in the office of Governor and shall perform the functions of that office accordingly.”
