Virgin Gorda Resident Killed While Visiting Native Home of St. Vincent

Virgin Gorda Resident Shernard Gloster 47, a Vincentian Native, was shot dead while visiting his Homeland of St. Vincent. Gloster was shot yesterday Wednesday 9 July while doing business at the Kingstown Cooperative Credit Union. He was a member of the institution.

The fatal shooting occurred after an altercation which turned into a tussle with an on duty security guard at the financial institution. The incident allegedly occurred over the Gloster switching lines while doing business at the credit union’s headquarters. He died in the foyer of the building, close to the exit, after being shot once in the chest we understand.

The security guard, who is employed by Guardsman SVG Ltd., is said to have fired the fatal round from the pistol that was assigned to him to execute his duties.

A statement from SVG Police indicated that at approximately 12:35 p.m., Shernard Gloster, 47 years of Keartons, Barrouallie, visited the Kingstown Cooperative Credit Union office to conduct business.

“During his visit, an altercation occurred between Gloster and an on-duty security guard, resulting in Gloster being fatally shot.” the statement said.

“Gloster was later pronounced dead at the scene by a medical practitioner,” the statement went on to say.

A post mortem is scheduled to be conducted on his body today, Thursday 10 July 2025.
