Six Gun Incidences In Just Over Forty Eight Hours - Ahead of Festival Kickoff

The RVIPF has spent the past 36 hours dealing with gun incidences in the Territory, all incidences taking place in various areas of the Capital (Road Town).

Four of the incidences which occurred in the past 12 hours, has seen one male arrested in the Huntum’s Ghut area last night Friday 18 July around 11pm, for gun possession. Police were on patrol in the area when the arrest was made.

Police have confirmed an armed robbery outside of a nightclub in Road Town last night where one male was robbed of cash.

Just hours later, another male had been left nursing a gunshot wound to the foot after being shot in the Long Bush area just after 2am this morning Saturday 19 July. He has been admitted to the Hospital.

Police are also confirming an encounter in Duffs Bottom where officers pursuing suspects in a suspected vehicle theft, came under direct gunfire from the occupants.

Fortunately, no officers were injured during the exchange and chase.

Commissioner Jacqueline Vanterpool described the night’s events as a dangerous escalation that would be met with a firm and focused police response.

“While we’re making progress in removing illegal weapons, tonight’s events show our work is far from done,” said Commissioner Vanterpool.

“Attacks on our officers and community members will not be tolerated. We have dedicated teams working around the clock on these investigations.” she went on to say.

She further stated that all victims are receiving the necessary support and that intensive investigations are actively underway.

Earlier Gun Incidents

On Wednesday night 17 July, the RVIPF apprehended and arrested two teenagers in the area of the Government Admin Complex. There was a report of suspicious activity which the Police swiftly responded to, that ended in the apprehension of the teens, both 17.

A search of their persons led to the recovery of a loaded Glock 19 pistol containing 12 rounds of ammunition. Both individuals were taken into custody, and investigations remain active and ongoing.

Earlier that same Wednesday afternoon 17 July, the RVIPF were called to reports of gunfire in the Purcell area. The Police did confirm a shooting incident, however no one was reported injured.

Guavaberry Media was informed by well placed sources that gunfire was opened on a vehicle, however, the occupants were able to escape without injury.

In a released statement from the RVIPF, the gun seizure on Wednesday night, brought the total number of gun seizures to 13, the same if compared to the same period last year. However, the seizure last night has now surpassed that number for the same period.

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) continues to make substantial progress in its ongoing efforts to remove illegal firearms and ammunition from the Territory.

This latest (17 July 2025) seizure brings the total number of illegal firearms recovered in 2025 to 13, matching the total for the same period last year. “The vigilance and dedication shown by our officers exemplifythe values of the RVIPF and our mission to ensure safety and security across the Territory,” Ag. Commissioner Vanterpool added.

I just sent this to my children who were held at gun point for $5 dollars between them last season. I’ll never forget that.
