BVI Wreck Week Donates to Green VI
Green VI, a local non-profit organisation dedicated to fostering a greener, cleaner and healthier British Virgin Islands, is grateful to receive a $1,000 donation from BVI Wreck Week. This contribution will bolster Green VI’s ongoing initiatives in waste reduction, recycling, renewable energy and environmental health across the Territory.
Kim Huish, President of the BVI Scuba Organization, which hosts BVI Wreck Week, notes that, “This annual event offers a unique opportunity for divers and enthusiasts to explore the underwater history and beauty of the territory through a wide variety of activities, including guided tours and seminars on marine conservation and coastal clean ups.” She added that, “Wreck Week is committed to preserving the natural beauty of the BVI and supporting organisations such as Green VI is central to that commitment, especially as their dedication to practical projects, education, and innovation aligns perfectly with our values and we are happy to contribute to their vital work."
"We are very grateful for BVI Wreck Week's generous donation," says Dylan Penn, Director of Operations at Green VI. "This support will directly contribute to our mission of transforming environmental challenges into opportunities for sustainable progress in the BVI. Partnerships like this are crucial in driving positive change and building a more resilient future for our islands."
How to Help Protect BVI Waters:
The health of BVI waters is a shared responsibility. Here's how you can contribute:
- Participate in Cleanups: Join local initiatives to remove litter and debris from beaches, coastlines and underwater environments.
- Embrace Recycling: Actively sort and recycle waste to reduce landfill impact and prevent pollution from entering the ocean.
- Reduce Chemical Use: Opt for eco-friendly cleaning products and minimize the use of harmful chemicals that can accumulate in our waters.
- Support Sustainable Practices: Advocate for, and adopt, better building and drainage practices that prevent runoff and protect natural habitats.
- Donate to Local NPOs: Support non-profit organizations such as Green VI that are actively working on the ground to implement sustainable solutions and educate the community.
Together, we can ensure the continued beauty and ecological health of the British Virgin Islands for generations to come.
