BVIAA ISSUES TRAVEL FOLLOWING US ATTACK ON VENEZUELA
The BVI Airports Authority (the Authority) is advising the travelling public of current restrictions affecting regional airspace resulting from a notice issued by the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This notice impacts U.S.-registered aircraft and U.S. based carriers operating within the Caribbean region.
As a result, flight operations to and from the Virgin Islands maybe subject to delays, diversions, rescheduling, or cancellations, depending on individual airline routing and operational decisions.
The Authority emphasized that these restrictions are outside of its control and are being managed directly by the affected airlines in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements.
Passengers are strongly advised to:
• Contact their airline directly for the most current and accurate information
regarding flight status; and
• Confirm flight details prior to travelling to the airport, as schedules may change
with limited notice.
The Authority remains in close communication with airline partners and relevant aviation stakeholders and will continue to provide updates as additional information becomes available.
After months of military build up in the region, the US moved to attack Venezuela during the morning hours of Saturday January 3rd. The country’s President is accused of drug trafficking and working with gangs designated as terrorist organizations. Maduro denied the accusations.
We understand that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife were "captured and flown out of the Country.” The U.S. Army's Delta Force, an elite special forces unit, carried out the operation to capture Maduro.
