122 persons have been naturalised as British Overseas Territories Citizens following two ceremonies held at Government House on Tuesday 24th February, 2026.
During the ceremonies, the newly naturalised individuals heard congratulatory remarks from His Excellency the Governor, Mr. Daniel Pruce, Acting Premier, Honourable Julian Fraser, RA, and Registrar General, Mrs. Tashi O’Flaherty-Maduro.
Governor Pruce reminded the celebrants that naturalisation is an enriching process from which the Virgin Islands gains during his remarks. He expressed that the intermingling of cultures and ways of thinking brings benefits that will reach the entire community.
The Governor said, “The shared values in our community include respect and concern for others who are less fortunate, or simply those who are considered to be different. Perhaps, when you first came here, you felt different yourself. But, as the Bible reminds us, you shall love the stranger, for you were once a stranger in the land.”
Acting Premier, Honourable Julian Fraser welcomed the individuals to the Virgin Islands family. He shared that he was overjoyed to see individuals who have contributed to the success of the Virgin Islands reach this pivotal milestone in their lives.
Honourable Fraser said, “Today we join a distinguished group of individuals who have committed themselves to the development of this territory, who have followed it's laws, embraced it's values and enriched it's communities through their hard work and perseverance. Your Naturalization is not merely a legal transaction. It is a symbol of appreciation for your years of service, commitment and respect for the Virgin Islands which you now call home. Becoming a BOTC is more than an administrative process it is a statement that your presence here is valued and that you have woven yourself into the fabric of our society.”
Meanwhile, Registrar General, Mrs. Tashi O’Flaherty-Maduro said, “Becoming a citizen is more than the granting of a legal status. It is the embracing of a shared identity, shared responsibility, and a shared future. It means that you have chosen these beautiful Virgin Islands as your home, not simply as a place to live, but as a place to belong.”
Mrs. O’Flaherty-Maduro added, “Our Territory is built not only by those born here, but also by those who come, invest their talents, raise families, build businesses, serve faithfully, and give of themselves. Today, we celebrate the richness that your presence adds to our community. Your diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences strengthen us and remind us that unity does not require uniformity. As you take your pledge of loyalty to the Virgin Islands and Oath of Allegiance, reflect on the journey that brought you here. Reflect on the perseverance it required and the commitment you have demonstrated. Let today be a renewal of your dedication to contribute positively to the life of this Territory.”
