The acclaimed theatrical production “Master Harold”…and the Boys is set to captivate Los Angeles audiences at the Geffen Playhouse’s Gil Cates Theater from April 8 through May 10, 2026. The production is co-directed by renowned Tony Award–nominated director Emily Mann and Academy Award winner Tarell Alvin McCraney, Artistic Director of the Geffen Playhouse.
Joining the stellar ensemble, Sheldon Frett appears in the production as an understudy for the role of Willie. Frett, a classically trained actor and graduate of the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA), brings international stage and screen experience to this powerful drama.
Originally from the British Virgin Islands, he has appeared in classical productions including Pericles, Henry VI, and Titus Andronicus, and made his film debut opposite Academy Award winner Viola Davis in Get On Up and starring the late Chadwick Boseman. Additional credits include the British comedy series Hitmen alongside Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins, and the limited series Shots Fired.
Reflecting on his role and his roots, Frett shared, "Being part of this production under the direction of Tarell Alvin McCraney is an incredible opportunity to grow as an artist. I am also proud to continue highlighting the British Virgin Islands on an international stage, showing the world the talent and stories that come from our home."
“Master Harold”…and the Boys is Athol Fugard’s acclaimed drama that explores race, power, and friendship set in apartheid-era South Africa. The story unfolds in a 1950s tea shop, where a young white teenager, Hally, interacts with two Black waiters, Sam and Willie, uncovering complex emotional truths that test the bonds of affection and respect.
Frett’s participation in this compelling stage work underscores his versatility and dedication to storytelling in diverse theatrical realms.Performances are scheduled Wednesdays through Sundays, with opening night on April 16, 2026.
