ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The Gideons of the British Virgin Islands have donated a supply of New Testament Bibles to the British Virgin Islands Health Services Authority (BVIHSA) in a gesture aimed at providing comfort and spiritual support to patients, visitors and healthcare workers.
The donation was formally presented on June 18 by Gideons representatives Joseph “Ed” DeCastro and Ian Nathaniel. Receiving the donation on behalf of the BVIHSA was Chief of Operations Cedorene Malone-Smith.
The contribution included note-sized New Testament Bibles for placement in patient rooms and community clinics, along with pocket-sized editions for members of staff across the healthcare system.
According to the BVIHSA, the materials are intended to offer hope, encouragement and opportunities for reflection within healthcare settings, recognizing that healing often extends beyond physical treatment alone.
The authority said the donation aligns with its commitment to holistic care, which seeks to address not only the physical needs of patients but also their emotional and spiritual well-being.
Mrs. Malone-Smith welcomed the donation and thanked the Gideons for their support of the territory’s healthcare services.
“We are grateful for this thoughtful donation, which supports our ongoing commitment to whole-person care,” she said. “Small acts of comfort and encouragement can make a meaningful difference for patients, families and our healthcare teams.”
The BVIHSA noted that resources that promote peace, hope and encouragement can play an important role in supporting patients and their families during difficult periods, while also offering inspiration to healthcare professionals working on the front lines of patient care.
The authority expressed its appreciation to the Gideons for the contribution and for the organization’s continued efforts to support the well-being of residents throughout the Virgin Islands.
