ROAD TOWN, Tortola, Virgin Islands — The BVI Health Services Authority (BVIHSA) has earned international recognition after winning the Grand Prize at the 2026 APIC Film Festival for its original short film, A Symphony of Guardians.

The award-winning production was selected from entries submitted by healthcare organizations and infection prevention professionals from around the world, marking a significant achievement for both the Authority and the Virgin Islands on the global healthcare stage.

Created to raise awareness about infection prevention, A Symphony of Guardians highlights the critical role healthcare professionals play in safeguarding patients, colleagues, and the wider community through safe practices, teamwork, and a commitment to quality care.

The film was written by Gevonie Percival, Administrative Assistant in the Mental Health Unit, produced by Infection Prevention Manager Rosa Ravariere-Seaman, and filmed and edited by Albert Cheraymond, Production Assistant in the Marketing and Public Relations Unit.

The BVIHSA commended Cheraymond for bringing the project to life through his cinematography and editing, while also recognizing the Marketing and Public Relations Unit for its creative direction and production support, which helped transform an important patient safety message into an internationally acclaimed film.

Representatives of the Authority, including Ravariere-Seaman, attended the APIC 2026 Annual Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, where they accepted the Grand Prize on behalf of the organization.

Speaking on the achievement, Ravariere-Seaman described the award as the result of a collective effort.

“This film was truly a team effort, and I’m grateful to everyone who worked with me to bring it to life. Their creativity, dedication, and support made this possible,” she said.

Director of Quality Rhonda Williams said the recognition reflected the strength of teamwork across the Authority.

“We are incredibly proud of this achievement. It reflects the strength of collaboration across BVIHSA and our ongoing commitment to quality, safety, and excellence in care,” Williams stated.

Acting Chief Executive Officer June Samuel said the international honour demonstrated the talent and dedication of the Authority’s staff.

“This award is a testament to the remarkable talent, collaboration and passion that exists across our organization. To have our work recognized on an international stage among entries from across the globe is an incredible honour,” Samuel said.

The APIC Film Festival forms part of the annual conference hosted by the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC), which was held from June 15 to 17 in Nashville, United States. The event brings together infection prevention specialists and healthcare professionals from around the world to share best practices, innovative ideas, and advances in patient safety.

BVIHSA said the award reflects its continued commitment to strengthening infection prevention programmes, promoting patient safety, and delivering quality healthcare throughout the Virgin Islands.

The Authority added that the success of A Symphony of Guardians demonstrates how creative storytelling can serve as a powerful educational tool, inspiring best practices well beyond the walls of healthcare facilities.

BVIHSA congratulated everyone involved in the production for securing the prestigious international honour and for proudly representing the Virgin Islands on the global healthcare stage.
