BVI Moves Forward with First Purpose-Built Immigration Detention Centre
ROAD TOWN, Tortola — The British Virgin Islands has taken another step toward establishing its first purpose-built Immigration Detention Centre, with a recently held Bidders’ Conference bringing shortlisted construction firms together as the project advances through the competitive procurement process.
The conference was led by the Recovery and Development Agency’s (RDA) technical team, working alongside design consultant Trojan Designs. It provided prospective bidders with further details on the project’s construction scope, technical specifications and procurement requirements.
The planned facility is being described as the first specially designed immigration detention centre of its kind in the Territory.
According to project information, the centre is intended to be developed to international standards and provide a secure, fit-for-purpose environment to support the Government’s immigration processes.
The facility is expected to strengthen the infrastructure available for the management of immigration-related cases while providing a dedicated space designed specifically for detention purposes.
The Bidders’ Conference represents a significant stage in the procurement process, allowing shortlisted construction companies to better understand the requirements before submitting their proposals.
The deadline for bid submissions is 5 October 2026.
With the bidding period now underway, the project moves closer to construction and the eventual establishment of the BVI’s first purpose-built facility dedicated to immigration detention.
