RVIPF Announces Changes to Visa Waiver Validity Period

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, BVI — The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has announced an immediate change to the administration of visa waivers, with newly issued waivers now carrying a maximum validity period of two years.

Under the revised policy, visa waivers will no longer remain valid for the remaining life of the holder’s passport. Instead, all visa waivers issued going forward will be granted for a maximum period of two years, regardless of when the applicant’s passport expires.

The RVIPF said the change forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen border security and maintain mutual safety and security between the parties involved in the visa waiver scheme.

Applicants are being reminded that the revised validity period does not change the existing eligibility requirements for obtaining a visa waiver.

Approval will continue to be considered on a case-by-case basis, with the necessary consultations taking place with law enforcement counterparts in the United States.

“The granting of a visa waiver continues to be considered on a case-by-case basis,” the RVIPF said, stressing that applicants must still satisfy all existing requirements.

The police force said it remains committed to ensuring the proper administration of the scheme while working closely with its international partners in the interest of mutual safety and security.

Members of the public seeking further information on visa waiver applications are encouraged to take note of the revised two-year validity period when making their applications.

The RVIPF has thanked the public for its cooperation and understanding as the changes are implemented.
