ROAD TOWN, Tortola, British Virgin Islands – Twenty-two students in the Virgin Islands are set to benefit from a combined $100,000 in scholarships from the MHV BVI Group through the newly established Judith E. Vanterpool Scholarship Fund.
The scholarship initiative was first announced in April 2026 by MHV BVI Group Chairman Mark Vanterpool, who initially pledged $50,000 to support students pursuing their education. The commitment was subsequently doubled to $100,000 in an effort to assist more students and increase the programme’s impact.
The successful applicants will receive their award letters over the coming days, with the scholarship funding to be distributed over a two-year period.
Honouring a Legacy of Education
The scholarship fund is named in honour of Judith E. Vanterpool, co-founder of the MHV BVI Group, who has dedicated more than 50 years to education in the Virgin Islands at various levels.
Both Mark Vanterpool and Judith Vanterpool have backgrounds in teaching, and the company said its scholarship initiative reflects its continued commitment to advancing education in the Territory.
The MHV BVI Group also regularly employs and mentors young people through its summer job training programme.
Speaking about the scholarship awards, Judith Vanterpool said the initiative is intended to provide more than financial assistance to the recipients.
“Beyond the financial impact, we want successful applicants to take this investment as a sign that someone believes strongly in what they can achieve.”
She also expressed the hope that the scholarship recipients will eventually return to the Virgin Islands and contribute to the Territory’s continued development.
Two decades of supporting students
The MHV BVI Group said that over the past 20 years, it has helped fund the education of numerous students and has seen many of those beneficiaries return to the BVI and contribute meaningfully to the community.
The group congratulated the 22 students selected for the 2026 scholarship awards.
The scholarship programme adds to the group’s longstanding involvement in education and youth development, while continuing what it describes as Judith Vanterpool’s legacy of investment in education.
