BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS — The Hannah Hill Reservoir has been successfully tested, recommissioned and returned to service, restoring water distribution to consumers in Sea Cows Bay, Palestina and Pock Wood Pond.
The reservoir, which has a capacity of approximately 400,000 gallons, underwent rehabilitation and a series of checks before being placed back into operation.
Minister for Communications and Works Honourable Kye M. Rymer thanked residents for their patience and understanding during the period of water interruptions while maintenance and rehabilitation works were carried out.
“We got to this point after rehabilitating the reservoir, doing our checks for leaks, also doing a shock treatment, checking the chlorine level. Water is now ready to distribute,” Rymer said. “We will continue to do the work to ensure that all the residents within our communities have access to water.”
Director of the Water and Sewerage Department, Lyndon Hodge, said the department is making significant progress as it works to improve the reliability of the Territory’s water infrastructure.
Hodge said the Water and Sewerage Department continues to work tirelessly toward delivering a consistent water supply to residents across the Virgin Islands.
The recommissioning of the Hannah Hill Reservoir forms part of the Ministry of Communications and Works’ priority projects being implemented through the Water and Sewerage Department to address ongoing water challenges, which have resulted in water being declared a national critical priority.
Several other reservoirs have also undergone repairs as part of the Territory-wide effort to strengthen water infrastructure. On Tortola, repairs have been completed at one reservoir in Zion Hill, two in Carrot Bay and one in Long Bush.
Reservoirs in Sabbath Hill, Balsam Ghut and Fort Hill, as well as Milton Hill on Virgin Gorda, have been identified for repairs.
The Water and Sewerage Department has said its continued objective is to provide a reliable supply of safe, potable water, alongside environmentally sound sewerage disposal services, efficiently and at affordable rates to residents of the Virgin Islands.
