ROAD TOWN, Tortola, British Virgin Islands — Virgin Islands track and field official Ereia Smith has achieved a significant professional milestone, becoming a certified World Athletics Technical Manager.

Smith, who has officiated at the prestigious CARIFTA Games, continues to contribute to the development of athletics beyond the competition field, strengthening the Territory’s representation in the technical and officiating aspects of the sport.

Her certification marks an important step in her professional development and adds to the pool of expertise available within Virgin Islands athletics.

World Athletics operates a Technical Officials Education and Certification System designed to strengthen officiating standards and develop officials capable of serving at national, regional and international competitions.

Technical officials play an essential role in ensuring that athletics competitions are conducted in accordance with established rules and standards, supporting the integrity, consistency and smooth running of events.

Smith’s experience at the CARIFTA Games, one of the Caribbean’s premier junior athletics competitions, provides valuable regional exposure as she advances in her officiating career.

Her achievement comes as the Virgin Islands continues to build its presence in regional athletics. At the 53rd CARIFTA Games in Grenada in April 2026, Team BVI recorded a silver medal in the Under-20 girls’ high jump, alongside other strong performances and new national records.

Smith’s new certification is a welcome development for the Territory’s athletics community and highlights the importance of investing in the development of technical officials alongside athletes and coaches.

Congratulations to Ereia Smith on this achievement and continued service to track and field in the Virgin Islands.
