VI Government Partners with BBAC for Festivities Initiative
The Brewers Bay Action Committee (BBAC), in partnership with Agape Total Life Ministry and the Virgin Islands Fisher Folks Group will be hosting an August Tuesday Cultural event that promises to be a fun-filled day with cultural activities such as seine and fish pot fishing, Kayak Rides and Races, sand sculpting competition, cultural fashion show and other activities. There will also be a fish fry along with other delicious local foods, pastries, and drinks.
For many years, the Brewers Bay community has contributed to the emancipation festivities by hosting a festive cultural event. The President of BBAC, Mr. Claudius Rymer reflects that his grandfather, Arnold Rymer, many decades ago began this tradition on August Friday. “There were donkey races, live music and lots to eat and drink. People came from near and far and had a great time. Eventually, this tradition died out. Though there were attempts over the years to revive it, we were never able to be consistent.” Vice president, Mr. Troy Christopher, stated that this event is just the beginning. “We intend to revive Christmas Brewers Bay Style and other events to showcase the rich history of the Brewers Bay Community. Proceeds from these events will go toward various initiatives to enhance the natural beauty of Brewers Bay. Many things need to be done in this community, and we intend to do our part to ensure that these things are done.”
The Brewers Bay Action Committee (BBAC) established in 2011, is a non-partisan and non-political committee whose mission is to advance and advocate on behalf of the Brewers Bay Community so that pertinent issues affecting the community and its residents are addressed and the quality of life of the residents is enhanced. The Committee's focus is to rebuild cohesiveness among the residents through community outreach activities, establishing a Neighbourhood Watch Program, developing and implementing an action plan to address all the major issues affecting the community, and providing support and assistance to residents in times of crisis.
The public is invited to attend the Brewers Bay Cultural Festival Picnic on August Tuesday (5th August) from 10 a.m. until, for the first of many exciting events designed to bring our community back to life as we raise funds to achieve our shared goals!”
