FIREARM RECOVERED DURING SEARCH OPERATION
On Tuesday 30th December, officers conducted a search operation at a residence in the Fahie Hill area.
During the search, an illegal firearm and several rounds of ammunition were recovered. One male has been arrested and taken into custody for questioning in connection with the recovery.
Our newsroom was reliably informed by the homeowners in the area yesterday of a heavily armed Police presence. One homeowner informed our media house that an Officer on the scene confirmed that they were looking for an escapee.
We inquired with the Police whether there was intel of the escapees being in the area, which may have prompted the search.
The RVIPF have said that the operation forms part of the RVIPF’s violence reduction strategy which prioritises the removal of firearms and ammunition from the streets. Firearms are the weapons of choice for many violent offenders and almost all the murders in the Territory over the past 20 years have involved the use of firearms.
Acting Commissioner Jacqueline Vanterpool has commended the officers for their diligence, commitment and courage as the RVIPF seeks to maintain its focus on continuously improving public safety.
