Myron Walwyn and Mitch Turnbull Officially Return To National Democratic Party

Late last night March 24th, the National Democratic Party (NDP), through official correspondence, announced a historic reunification of its leadership and membership.

“Following a period of constructive dialogue and shared reflection on the future of the Territory between the NDP and The Alliance, the NDP confirms that Hon. Myron Walwyn and Hon. Mitch Turnbull reunited with the Party, believing it to be in the best interest of people of the Virgin Islands.” The correspondence noted.

The announcement noted that the reunification marked a pivotal moment in VI politics, signaling a consolidated front dedicated to experienced governance, economic revitalization, and the protection of the Virgin Islands’ autonomy.

“A Shared Vision for the Virgin Islands, this reunification under the NDP banner helps to reinforce the values that have long defined the party. By merging the institutional strength of the National Democratic Party with the fresh perspectives of The Alliance, the unified body is now positioned as the definitive alternative for the upcoming constitutional and economic challenges facing the Territory.” the correspondence further said.

"Our priority has always been the people of the Virgin Islands. This reunification is not about the past—it is about the future. It not only strengthens our ranks it ensures that the NDP remains the most capable vehicle for progress. We are not just reuniting as a political organization; we are reuniting a vision for a prosperous and self-reliant VI," said Interim Chair, Hon. Marlon Penn.

Hon. Myron Walwyn expressed his enthusiasm for the move, stating, "Leadership is about knowing when to come together for the greater good. The challenges our Territory faces require a unified, experienced team and this coming together positions the NDP to put this country back on a path to prosperity for all.”

“My commitment has always been to the people of this Territory first, foremost, and always. This decision to reunite with the National Democratic Party is not about politics as usual; it is about purpose, responsibility, and the urgent need for strong, credible leadership at this defining moment in our history”. Hon. Mitch Turnbull in confirming his return.

The core of the Party separated in late 2018 after Honourable Myron Walwyn defeated both Honourable Ronnie Skelton and former Deputy Premier Kedrick Pickering for leadership of the party. The split created a tumultuous journey for the Party and its following, ending here now in its full reunification.

More to come on this developing story.
