ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI — Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley has lauded Virgin Islands sprint sensation Adaejah Hodge following her record-breaking performances at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, describing her achievements as a source of immense pride and inspiration for the Territory.

In a congratulatory message issued on behalf of the Government and people of the Virgin Islands, the Premier praised Hodge for what he called an extraordinary display of talent, determination, and excellence on one of athletics’ biggest collegiate stages.

Over the course of three days, Hodge etched her name into the history books with a series of remarkable performances. The young sprinter first stunned the athletics world by clocking 10.63 seconds in the women’s 100-metre semifinal, setting a new NCAA and Under-20 World Record. The time eclipsed a longstanding mark and immediately elevated her among the sport’s most promising young stars.

She followed that historic run with an equally dominant performance in the 200 metres, capturing the NCAA national title in a blistering 21.68 seconds. The performance shattered the collegiate record and further cemented her status as one of the fastest women in the world.

“Adaejah, you have made history,” Premier Wheatley said. “You have lifted the Virgin Islands flag to new heights and inspired Virgin Islanders around the world who watched with pride as you demonstrated the strength, talent, and determination that come from our small but mighty nation.”

The Premier said Hodge’s accomplishments serve as a powerful reminder that greatness is not determined by the size of one’s country, but by courage, discipline, and belief in oneself.

According to Wheatley, Hodge’s journey should serve as an inspiration to young people throughout the Territory, showing them that their dreams are attainable through hard work and perseverance.

“For our young people especially, your journey is a beacon of hope, showing them that their dreams are valid, their goals are within reach, and their future is full of possibility,” the Premier stated.

As celebrations continue across the Virgin Islands, Hodge’s achievements have been widely hailed as a defining moment for local athletics and another milestone in the Territory’s growing reputation on the international sporting stage.

The Premier concluded by assuring Hodge of the unwavering support of the Virgin Islands community as she continues her athletic journey.

“The road ahead is bright, and the Virgin Islands stands firmly behind you every step of the way,” he said.

Hodge’s historic performances have not only earned her national acclaim but have also positioned her among the elite sprinters in global athletics, bringing unprecedented recognition to the Virgin Islands and inspiring a new generation of athletes to dream big.
