ROAD TOWN, Tortola, British Virgin Islands — A young Filipino woman was alleged to have been found dead at a residence in the McNamara area on Monday evening, in an incident that has left members of the Territory’s Filipino community in mourning.
Guavaberry Media understands that throughout Monday, July 20, numerous members of the public contacted the news outlet after observing a significant emergency response at a residence in McNamara. Witnesses reported seeing officers of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), personnel from a local funeral home, and a large gathering of members of the Filipino community at the location.
Sources within the Filipino community have informed Guavaberry Media that the deceased is believed to have taken her own life. However, the official cause of death has not yet been confirmed by authorities.
It is further understood that forced entry was required to gain access to the residence before the woman was discovered.
In a statement, the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force confirmed that officers responded to the incident shortly after 6:00 p.m. on Monday, July 20.
“The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force can confirm that a woman was found unresponsive at a residence in the McNamara area after 6 p.m. on Monday, 20th July.
She was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation. At this time, police are not seeking anyone in connection with the matter.
