The Government of the Virgin Islands, through the Road Town Development Partnership, has awarded a contract valued at $798,108.74 to local contractor TMB Enterprises for major sidewalk improvements along de Castro Street, marking another step in the ongoing revitalisation of the capital.

The contract was officially signed today between the Recovery and Development Agency (RDA), in partnership with the Government of the Virgin Islands, and TMB Enterprises.

The project represents a significant milestone for TMB Enterprises, as it enters into its first contract with the RDA. The company is led by Virgin Islander Jaheel Howe, highlighting the increasing role of locally owned businesses in delivering major public infrastructure projects across the Territory.

The de Castro Street Sidewalk Improvement Project will see the demolition and reconstruction of ageing sidewalks, installation of improved drainage infrastructure, new landscaping, and the development of a safer, more attractive and fully accessible pedestrian network.

Once completed, the upgraded streetscape is expected to enhance mobility and safety for residents, visitors, senior citizens, schoolchildren and persons with disabilities, while creating a more welcoming environment for businesses operating within Road Town.

Construction is scheduled to commence in September 2026.

The initiative is being delivered through the Road Town Development Partnership, a collaboration between the RDA and the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sustainable Development, with funding provided by the Government of the Virgin Islands.

Officials say the project extends beyond routine infrastructure upgrades, describing it as an investment in accessibility, economic opportunity and the continued transformation of the Territory’s capital.

The improvements form part of wider efforts to modernise Road Town’s public spaces, enhance the pedestrian experience and support the long-term vision of creating a vibrant, resilient and business-friendly urban centre.
