British Virgin Islands sprint sensation Adaejah Hodge has etched her name into Commonwealth Games history after producing a sensational, record-breaking performance in the women’s 200 metres semifinal at Glasgow 2026.

The 20-year-old delivered the race of her life on Thursday, July 30, storming to victory in the second semifinal at Scotstoun Stadium in a blistering 22.01 seconds to secure her place in the final.

In doing so, Hodge shattered the Commonwealth Games record of 22.02 seconds, previously set by Jamaican sprint icon and five-time Olympic gold medallist Elaine Thompson-Herah at the Birmingham 2022 Games.

The performance also marks another historic first for the British Virgin Islands, as Hodge becomes the first female athlete from the Territory to qualify for a Commonwealth Games 200m final.

Displaying remarkable composure and strength over the final 100 metres, Hodge separated herself from a world-class field to win her semifinal convincingly, crossing the line ahead of Jamaica’s Ashanti Moore and firmly establishing herself as one of the favourites heading into the championship race.

Hodge’s latest accomplishment adds to what has already been a remarkable rise in international athletics. The former national junior standout has continued to elevate the profile of the Virgin Islands on the world stage, consistently delivering elite performances against some of the sport’s biggest names.
