The Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change is inviting applications for membership on the Crown Lands Advisory Board, established under the Crown Lands Management Act, 2024.
The Ministry is seeking to fill one vacancy for a representative from the island of Jost Van Dyke.
The successful applicant will serve as a member of the Crown Lands Advisory Board and assist in carrying out the functions of the Board as prescribed under the Act. Members are expected to act at all times in a transparent, accountable and responsible manner in matters relating to the disposal and management of Crown Lands.
The selected representative will also be expected to provide recommendations that take into consideration the cultural and historical characteristics of the individual islands and regions of the Territory in relation to the disposal of Crown Lands. Such recommendations will be subject to consideration alongside those of the relevant Standing Committees.
Qualifications and Eligibility
Prospective applicants must possess, at minimum, a Bachelor’s Degree and demonstrate the ability to make sound, fair and equitable decisions.
Applicants should also possess:
- A high level of integrity and credibility;
- Trustworthiness and the ability to maintain confidentiality;
- Strong judgment and decision-making skills; and
- Other qualifications and personal attributes relevant to the responsibilities of the Board.
In accordance with the Crown Lands Management Act, the successful applicant must be a Virgin Islander or otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for Belongership as outlined under Section 2(2)(f) or Section 2(2)(h) of the Virgin Islands Constitution Order, 2007 (U.K.S.I. 2007 No. 1678), including any applicable requirements relating to the length of time a certificate has been held.
Term of Appointment
A member of the Board will serve for a period not exceeding three years and may be eligible for reappointment for one additional three-year term upon the expiration of the initial appointment.
Appointments of non-government members will be staggered to ensure that no more than two non-government representatives are reappointed in any calendar year.
The position is stipend-based.
