The Civil Registry and Passport Office is set to introduce new Marriage and Adoption certificates as part of an effort to strengthen document security and modernise the Territory’s vital records.

The new certificates will take effect on October 1, 2026, according to a public notice issued by the Civil Registry and Passport Office.

The redesigned documents incorporate a number of changes, including historic elements intended to preserve the legacy of the Virgin Islands, updated layouts for improved readability and presentation, and enhanced security features designed to help prevent fraud and unauthorised reproduction.

Strengthening the integrity of vital records

The Civil Registry and Passport Office said the initiative forms part of its ongoing commitment to strengthening document security and improving the management and protection of official records.

The new certificates are intended to support:

• Stronger document security;
• Enhanced identity management systems;
• Greater protection of the authenticity of vital records; and
• Improved public service delivery.

The office said the updated documents will provide residents with certificates that meet higher standards of security and reliability, whether they are required for personal, legal or official purposes.

The introduction of the new certificates represents another step in the modernisation of the Territory’s civil registration system, while incorporating elements that reflect the Virgin Islands’ history and heritage.
