WAR ON DERELICT VEHICLES: OWNERS GIVEN UNTIL FRIDAY TO CLEAR DE CASTRO STREET PARKING LOTS
Owners of derelict and abandoned vehicles occupying public parking spaces along de Castro Street have until Friday, November 6, to remove their vehicles voluntarily or risk potential enforcement action.
The Virgin Islands Recovery and Development Agency (RDA) has issued the notice as preparations advance for the commencement of the de Castro Street Sidewalks Improvement Project.
According to the Agency, a number of derelict and abandoned vehicles have been identified in the parking lots along the street, occupying valuable public spaces that need to be cleared ahead of the planned works.
The RDA said removing the vehicles is necessary to maintain safe and accessible public spaces while allowing preparations for the improvement project to move forward.
Vehicle owners are being encouraged to use the courtesy period to remove their property before Friday’s deadline and avoid possible action by the relevant authorities.
The notice signals another effort to address the growing issue of derelict vehicles occupying public spaces across the Territory, where abandoned vehicles can take up valuable parking, create unsightly surroundings and affect accessibility.
The RDA has appealed for public cooperation as work preparations continue.
