The BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) is launching a Territory-wide community meeting series aimed at strengthening public engagement and giving residents greater insight into the services and decisions that affect their electricity supply.
Dubbed “Beyond the Bill,” the initiative will feature 11 community meetings across all nine Electoral Districts, providing opportunities for residents to engage directly with BVIEC management and departmental representatives, learn more about the Corporation’s operations and initiatives, and raise concerns affecting their households, businesses and communities.
The inaugural meeting is scheduled for Thursday, November 5, 2026, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the West End Community Centre in District 1.
Beyond the Electricity Bill
According to the Corporation, the initiative recognises that customers’ concerns extend beyond the amount reflected on their monthly electricity bills.
The meetings are intended to promote transparency, improve public understanding of electricity services, address misconceptions and strengthen communication between BVIEC and the communities it serves.
Presentations from various departments will cover a range of topics, including electricity billing, fuel surcharges and subsidies, as well as the targeted 1,500 kWh initiative.
Residents will also receive updates on VIEWCo and the ongoing collaboration between BVIEC and the Water and Sewerage Department, alongside information on customer service improvements, the Know Your Customer (KYC) initiative and the process for obtaining new electricity connections.
Other areas of discussion will include online bill payments, reporting service-related issues, renewable energy initiatives under the Solar Technology Energy Programme (STEP), electricity theft prevention and infrastructure safety.
The Corporation will also address factors affecting power generation and service reliability, including common misconceptions surrounding electricity outages.
Residents to Get Direct Answers
A key feature of the meetings will be a dedicated question-and-answer session, allowing residents to raise concerns directly with BVIEC management and departmental representatives.
Attendees are encouraged to take note of questions arising during the presentations, which will be addressed at the conclusion of the sessions.
Residents may also submit specific questions in advance through BVIEC’s official social media channels, particularly if they wish to have a particular matter addressed during the meeting.
BVIEC said feedback gathered throughout the series will help identify recurring concerns, strengthen public education efforts and inform ongoing service improvements.
Meetings to Continue Into 2027
The community engagement series is expected to continue into 2027, with a minimum of two meetings planned during each active month, excluding December due to the holiday season.
In addition to meetings across the nine Electoral Districts, separate sessions will be held on Jost Van Dyke and Anegada, alongside those planned for Tortola and Virgin Gorda.
The Corporation said dates and venues for subsequent meetings will be announced as arrangements are finalised in collaboration with District Representatives and relevant stakeholders.
BVIEC is encouraging residents to attend the meetings prepared with questions, concerns and suggestions relating to electricity services and the Corporation’s ongoing initiatives.
The series is intended to provide residents with a direct opportunity to engage with the Corporation, better understand the services they rely on and have their concerns heard.
