We are not ornithologists but whenever we pass around the Hawk’s Nest on our weekly Saturday morning walks, we look eagerly into the pond to count the number of flamingos.Twenty-three is the top number, so far, with 5 light grey chicks; A wonder!  (Flamingos are born white or some shade of grey.)It’s the food!  The shrimps, algae, that clothe them in the brilliant pink that we observe in the adults.  So many lessons from food.  So little initiative from the government to resuscitate a public h...

Hello You! What a drive. Getting home these days feels more like a task than going to a place of sanctuary. Anybody else feels this way? I do understand that with development comes a few inconveniences but dawg, this is not for the weak rather the impatient. Hours upon hours in traffic, hungry, tired, sleepy. Kids in the back arguing away. But we must endure it for the sake of progress. Election is really around the corner. We see you, big dawg!Sirens, Dust & More PromisesThe roads feel heavier ...

Spring Bay National Park is absolutely stunning.  When we visited on Easter Sunday, even I was amazed at how clean, well-kept and manicured she was.  As we walked from a well-designed and inviting access point, over a stoned platform, down the strip, to the beach, we were impressed with the quality of work done by the NPTVI to restore the area after its destruction by multiple rainstorms. The gabion baskets recommended by the engineers should protect the beach during future rainstorms and even fr...

Try a thing!   Riddim & High FrequenciesThe island alive in its own rhythm, trees swaying like they hear music ...

Politics is dividing us.  We are not strangers to each other.  in-fact, we are relatives, friends, co-workers, acquaintances. So many have been grafted in that it is inappropriate even to speak of ‘us’ and them.  And in time, those who have worked hard to dilute the essence of the Virgin Islander will, too late, realize that they have only succeeded in hurting their children, grandchildren and future generations.  For it is, in part, a question about the beginning of the individual sojourn sinc...

Tom Cruise was impressive in ‘A few Good Men.’  In the exchange between the two marines after the verdict was read, one marine asked the other what they did wrong since they were only following orders.  The response was that “we were supposed to fight for people who couldn’t fight for themselves.”We were impressed on Tuesday when the early childhood children marched in a book parade on Tortola.  Books and reading must be part of their lives. The youngsters looked happy, enthusiastic, engaged...
